A24 is officially expanding Universe X with a new prequel to the horror lineup. The production studio has reunited director Ti West with Mia Goth with a new trailer for Pearl.
Mia Goth returns as the protagonist of the prequel alongside David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland and Emma Jenkins-Purro. Those who have followed the development of X may recall that the production of Pearl coincided with the X. Immediately after the X, Pearl’s shooting took place in secret, with the two films filming back-to-back in New Zealand. Since this is a prequel to X, Pearl takes viewers on a journey to explore Pearl’s backstory, set during World War I in 1918, showing the events that led to her becoming a notorious villain. X. The summary is as follows:
- “Filmmaker Ti West returns with a new chapter in the twisted World of X, a stunning sequel to this year’s most acclaimed horror film. Jewel is trapped on her family’s isolated farm and must Caring for her ailing father under the painful and bossy watch of her mother. Pearl longs for a life as glamorous as she sees it in the movies, where her ambitions, seductions, and repression are all set in X’s iconic villain’s stunning, techno-color-inspired Conflict in origin story.”
Among the executive producers, Kid Cudi has returned to the screen for X. The Pearl will be the origin story of X’s Murderer and is set to hit theaters on September 16. It will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Check out the trailer above.
