Joaquin Phoenix has boosted payouts for the Joker sequel to $20 million from $4.5 million, the actor capitalizing on the huge success of the original film.
After winning an Oscar for playing Arthur Fleck in Todd Phillips’ Joker, Joaquin Phoenix is now set to more than quadruple his earnings for the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. According to new reports, the critically acclaimed actor is set to receive a whopping $20 million for reprising his titular role in the second installment of the series. For context, Phoenix made $4.5 million for the first film, which means his payouts are now up more than 400%.
While plot details for the sequel are still scant at the moment, Lady Gaga has been linked to the project and is rumored to portray the Joker’s sidekick and love, Harley Quinn. Phillips previously worked with Gaga on the 2018 version of A Star is Born. Given her musical talent, there are also rumors that Joker: Folie à Deux could be a full-blown musical. Of course, DC Films and Warner Bros. Pictures have yet to announce anything official, so fans of the first movie should stay tuned for more updates.
