Madonna has taken New York by storm this month, as evidenced by four covers of Paper magazine’s digital August issue.

As she shared on Instagram, the pop queen danced and posed in a series of grunge-meets-glam outfits. On the cover she was wearing an oversized pink T-shirt, a black crop top and shorts embellished with sparkling crystal fringe and black fingerless gloves.

Others featured her wearing a black cutout bra and distressed grey tank top, paired with spray-painted white shorts with a black mesh bodice and pink latex armbands. Both feature a bright pink wig and black fishnet bodysuit, as well as a tiered diamond necklace, bracelet and hoop earrings by Eyob Yohannes.

In an accompanying editorial photographed by Ricardo Gomes, the “Music” singer also wore a solid black T-shirt, a leather button-down miniskirt and a leopard-print belt. All of her outfits were paired with the aforementioned accessories, including fingerless red and leopard-print gloves. On each shoot, she appears in a variety of scenes, waving fans, dancing and kissing New York City nightlife performers including Akeem, Miss Madeline, Andrew Darnell, The Dragon Sisters, The Dupont Twins, Merlot, Pauli Cakes and Omar Amour.

Madonna’s shoes are equally party-friendly: a set of shiny silver platform sandals. Her leather shoes feature a platform sole, upper toe and ankle straps with a 5-6″ block heel. The duo created a dramatic end to her outfit, suitable for an equally dramatic event.

Madonna spoke with writer Patrick Sandberg and producer Nile Rogers in an interview accompanying the filming, discussing a range of topics, including how popular her music is today, the subject matter and her sense of irony as an artist. She also shares the importance of empowering women through her music and career.

“Because I think when women make great dance records, I feel like in the early days, while the songs and melodies were really strong and the singers were really good, they weren’t really invested in making women think, ‘Wow, I don’t have to live with men I can live the rest of my life under the watchful eye of men. I can see life in a different way, rather than settle for the status quo. I can have my own voice and my own vision,” she said. “So that’s an important factor.”

When it comes to shoes, Madonna’s style tends to be bold and groundbreaking. A muse to designers including Christian Louboutin, the “Material Girl” singer often wears open-toed and platform heels on the red carpet, as well as bold over-the-knee boots. Her performance ensembles often feature booties and silhouettes that are knee-high or over-the-knee. Off work, the singer usually wears flat leather boots, as well as Nike and Puma sneakers.
