The Tom Cruise-starring sequel has reportedly grossed $679 million in North America to date, beating Marvel Studios’ record of $678 million. The Mavericks’ next target on the list is for Black Panther to become No. 5 at $700 million; Variety added that the feat isn’t impossible for a sequel film, given its November release of Black Panther: Forever Variety Kanda has no major competition before, but Disney may re-release the 2018 film in anticipation of a second installment.
As of this writing, Maverick has grossed more than $700 million at the box office, excluding sales from large overseas markets such as China and Russia. Released in May, it broke Memorial Day weekend release records and became Cruise’s first film to break $1 billion at the international box office.
