“Aquaman,” “Shazam!” Sequels reportedly delayed due to cost-cutting measures, as Warner Bros. explores new leadership.
Aquaman and Shazam’s release date! The sequel has been delayed again.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will reportedly premiere on December 25, 2023, alongside Shazam! Wrath of the Gods will replace Aquaman 2’s old date of March 17, 2023, instead of the December date. Both films will see franchise leaders Jason Momoa and Zachary Levi return as titular superheroes.
The Hollywood Reporter added that the delay likely stemmed from Warner Bros. Exploring plans to “eliminate marketing and distribution costs associated with distribution studios.” The parent company’s new CEO, David Zaslav, is said to have prioritized cost-cutting measures and was more interested in Warner’s theatrical films than streaming.
