Star Wars fans are delighted that Ewan McGregor and Christensen are back as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but with only six episodes in the Disney+ series, it’s no wonder audiences are asking for another season. While Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to announce anything, it now appears that there may be more room for the story surrounding the exiled Jedi Master, as the entire Obi-Wan Kenobi project was originally intended to be a full-blown Movie trilogy.
The show’s original screenwriter, Stuart Beatty, revealed in an interview with The Direct that he’s pitching Lucasfilm for the first time for a three-movie film focused on McGregor’s beloved character. “So when I presented my Obi-Wan story to Lucasfilm, I said, ‘There are actually three stories here. Because in order to get from Obi-Wan to Ben, the characters have to go through three different evolutions,” the author said. recalled, then confirmed that McGregor himself agreed with the idea. “Yeah, everybody, Ivan was on board. We were like, ‘Yeah, get ready. We’re super excited about that too…it’s a great story, right? It’s a very fitting one. The role, Ivan is very good at that. He’s the perfect age, everything.”
Unfortunately, plans for a trilogy were never approved after Solo launched, and the box office was mediocre. “I spent a year and a half working on it,” Beatty explained. “Then, when it was decided not to make any spinoff films after Solo came out, I left the project and moved on to other things.”
