The Blade Runner 2099 sequel series is confirmed to be in production at Amazon, with Ridley Scott signed on to executive produce.
Variety has officially confirmed that Amazon has given the green light for the Blade Runner sequel series.
The live-action limited series will be titled Blade Runner 2099 and development will begin in February. Ridley Scott, who has signed on to executive produce the series, initially revealed that production would begin in November 2021. Minimal plot details have been shared, but the title hints that the events of the series will take place 50 years later in Blade Runner 2049, the 2017 sequel to the original Blade Runner.
The cast of the new series, which has yet to be announced, may just be one of Prime Video’s most ambitious projects yet. The new sequel is expected to be Amazon’s biggest genre show in recent years. No word yet on when it will be released.
