Hilary Duff doesn’t have time for negative comments — especially that kind of bullying, as seen in her recreated viral anti-bullying ad.
In a new Instagram Reel with Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying, the “Lizzie McGuire” star reshoots her ThinkB4YouSpeak ad that went viral in 2008 with the musician and her fiancé, Mark Manio. Recreating her own role, Duff corrected the two girls — lip-synched by Fok and Magno in the clip — to use “gay” as a negative slang term. In the new video, Duff is seen wearing a purple plaid midi dress with a curved neckline and a white bow tied at the side. This whimsical piece, paired with hoop earrings, adds a lighthearted vibe to her ensemble and underscores the new video’s positive mission.

“A culture-defining moment!” Hoying added a rainbow emoji to Reel, a collaboration with Duff, confirming its viral nature to the LGBTQ+ community 14 years later.
While Duff’s shoes aren’t visible in the clip, the star likely completed her ensemble with heeled sandals or platform shoes. She regularly wears these styles on the red carpet and at home—similar to the metallic gold pair she wore in August.

In the original 2008 ad, Duff was in a clothing store lecturing two girls who used the word “gay” to describe bad things. Duff corrected the duo’s vile remarks, comparing it to a girl wearing a skirt as a blouse – bringing home the importance of not using cruel or anti-LGBTQ+ language to bully others. At the time, the ad was part of the “ThinkB4YouSpeak” campaign – the result of a joint effort by GLSEN and the Advertising Council to combat anti-LGBTQ+ speech and bullying among youth.
“Do you realize what you’re talking about when you say ‘that’s too gay’? Stop it,” Duff concluded in the ad, which is available on YouTube.
For footwear, Duff’s style is somewhere between modern and glamorous.
