James Gunn recently took to Twitter to reveal a deleted scene from his 2014 Marvel movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
In a tweet, Gunn shared a screenshot with fans that appears to depict the biblical setting of “Groot’s Last Supper.” The sequence pays homage to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting The Last Supper, with Groot taking center stage with others around him, including key figures like Drax and Rocket. Gunn captioned the screenshot, “Screenshot of the original Guardians, which I cut from the last movie.” Gunn didn’t give a major explanation for why it was cut, but when asked by fans, he Said: “It was too fancy and stopped the story. It was the right thing to do.”
Asked by a fan in another tweet if he was concerned that the scene had too much foreshadowing, Gunn replied: “To a certain extent, but I’m not sure how many people want Groot to die in a Marvel movie. After Groot’s death, Groot Jr appeared in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Teen Groot appeared in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and 2020 and Avengers: Endgame, and will now appear again in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Check out the deleted scene below. The third and final Guardians of the Galaxy movie is expected to premiere on May 5, 2023.

May I ask why this masterpiece of a shot was cut?
