With more than a year to go before its theatrical release, production finally begins on Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 hit sequel Dune. The film announced the start of filming via its official Twitter account, posting a clapper photo of Dune: Part 2 along with the caption “We’re Rolling.”

While anyone who’s seen the original movie will know the fate of many of the characters from the first installment, Villeneuve has recruited another all-star cast to replace the series’ outgoing characters, including Oscar winner Christopher Walken, Black Widow star Florence Pugh, Elvis actor Austin Butler and James Bond’s Leah Seydoux. Of course, there will also be a number of key returning characters, including lead actors and actresses Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, St. Tran Skarsgar, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Stephen McKinley Henderson. The summary is as follows:

  • “This follow-up film will explore the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he joins forces with Charney and the Fremen to exact revenge on the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing the love of a lifetime and the nemesis of the known universe A choice between fate, he struggles to prevent a dire future that only he can foresee.”

Dune: Part 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on October 20, 2023.
