The ongoing collaboration at Union LA is one of the most worthy of study. Their ability to respect and push boundaries with classic Nike styles has made their collaborations some of the most sought after in the sneaker community. Nike Cortez celebrates its 50th birthday this year, and to celebrate Nike and Union LA have teamed up to create a Cortez like no other.
Union LA x Nike Cortez at the Nike Women Future 50 For Her Event. As Beth Birkett explains, the shoe was inspired by a collection of Ethiopian hats and a woven pattern throughout. The collaboration is a love letter to Los Angeles by reimagining the silhouette as an expression of the city’s rich history and cultural diversity. Featuring an upper composed of suede and knit overlays, this noble and modern upper gave the runway an almost deconstructed look. The midsole is composed of recycled material used in its Crater Foam midsole. The Nike Grind outsole completes the sneaker. A total of 4 colorways are expected to be released, with the first 2 colorways called “Sesame” and “Off-Noir” due later this month. Check out the image of the first drop below.
