You can now wear over 20,000 diamonds on one finger.
India-based jeweler SWA Diamonds has broken a world record for the number of diamonds set with a large diamond-encrusted ring called “Touch of Ami”. Its staggering 24,679 gems are more than double the previous record holder.
Inspired by pink oyster mushrooms, this piece isn’t terribly delicate, with a wide flower-like top that covers most of your hands. The intricate detailing is done by pouring liquid gold into a mold consisting of 41 mushroom petals, then hand-placed conflict-free natural diamonds on each petal.
The company has a team of experts from the International Gemological Institute’s laboratory evaluating the ring to ensure its quality. And officially awarded the company a world record in May 2022.
In fact, the ring has already set several records, including the Guinness World Records and Asia Book & Records, in recognition of this extraordinary feat. It was made in Malapuram district of Kerala and is the work of Ms Rijisha TV from the National Academy of Design. The jewelry designer used 3D printing and digital design technology to complete it in 90 days.
Part of the reason the jeweler designed the ring was to increase brand awareness and encourage more investment in the area, known for its skilled jewelry artisans.
“Mushrooms represent immortality and longevity,” Abdul Gafur Anadiyan, managing director of SWA Diamonds, said in a press statement. “It is our honor and privilege that this ring is made in India and the owner of the ring is Indian. ‘The Touch of Ami’ also marks a victory for entrepreneurship in our state’s diamond industry.”
The previous record for the most diamonds in a ring was held by Harshit Bansal, founder of Meerut-based Renani Jewels. His floral design, The Ring of Prosperity, features 12,000 diamonds in 2020.
