For Sunday’s Apple TV+ series “Surface” at the Morgan Library in New York, Gugu Mbatha-Raw took to the red carpet to show off a Renaissance painting.
The thriller’s protagonist appeared in such a snappy Alexander McQueen gown, complete with striking details, including its rich green. The upper body of the skirt is curved around the center and framed by a bone, and her right sleeve hangs down from her shoulder, wraps around her arm, and continues behind her back.
The other sleeve draped neatly over her shoulders, adding a touch of languid and casual elegance to the gown. There is a bow feature on one side of the skirt, which is not too prominent but noticeable enough as it creates its own pleated shape on the dress.
The best thing about this dress is that it doesn’t sweep the floor because the drape around her ankles only covers her heels.
For her accessories, the “Beauty” actress wore a pair of irregularly shaped embellished green earrings that matched a ruby bracelet on her left wrist. The addition of green, especially in the darker shades, helps to hone the rich bright green palette that this dress produces.
For her hair, she has a fun hairstyle with two braids at the back, around her chin. These braided choices add more Renaissance nods. To cool off the bright color, she finished off with shimmery eyeshadow and smoky eyeliner, along with a nude lip.
Nothing beats an invisible heel. The choice of Mbatha-Raw is an advantage, as silver metal at the toe and ankle adds a futuristic interpretation to the sensible historic look. It blends two contrasting aesthetics, and pointed-toe heels are the best option because they hold their own and don’t overwhelm the outfit. The invisible touch allows for multiple uses. 
To wrap up the night, the actress posed for a photo with Reese Witherspoon, who shone on the carpet in an off-white midi dress with shimmering accents, which she paired with another pair of pointed-toe pumps.
