Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix have been confirmed to star in Joker 2, with the sequel arriving five years after the first film premiered.
Following reports of the matter in June, Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will star in Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, opposite Joaquin Phoenix. The chart-topping multi-hyphen announced the news on social media, with the music trailer set to “Cheek to Cheek,” where she worked with Tony Bennett.
“Joker: Folie à Deux,” she wrote alongside the red and black visual on Instagram. “10.04.24.”

Aside from the film’s intriguing French title (named for a psychiatric syndrome that affects two or more people with the same delusional beliefs or hallucinations), there are currently no plot details for the film. The trailer doesn’t confirm that Gaga will play Harley Quinn in the film, although sources have previously said the Gucci House star is in “early talks” to play the Joker’s on-and-off romance and partner in crime.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday that the sequel will premiere in theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after the premiere of the first film. Notably, the first film grossed $335.4 million domestically and more than $1 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film in the world.
