Netflix reboots the reality TV series “The Mole,” an updated version of the most popular show of the early 2000s.
Netflix is officially rebooting the beloved reality TV series The Mole, based on the Belgian format created by Bart De Pauw, Michel Vanhove, Michiel Devlieger and Tom Lenaerts.
The series is reportedly set to shoot in Australia in 2021, starring Eureka Productions, known for Name That Tune and Holey Moley. The new version of the show will see one player, known as “The Mole,” try to sabotage 11 other players who are working together to complete a series of challenges. Prizes increase with each challenge completed, but prizes can only be earned by one player.
Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, Rikkie Proost, David Tibballs and David Burris serve as executive producers for the Netflix show.
The original show premiered on ABC in 2001, with Anderson Cooper serving as host for the first two seasons. A celebrity version of the series aired in seasons three and four, with Ahmad Rashad as host, before a four-year hiatus. It ran for another season in 2008 before it was cancelled.
The Mole will premiere this fall.
