Jerry Bruckheimer teases Nicolas Cage’s return to National Treasure 3, as script nears completion.
Following the release of the first trailer for the Disney+ spinoff series National Treasure: The Edge of History, filmmaker Jerry Bruckheime has revealed that development on National Treasure 3 continues. In a recent interview with Comicbook, Buckheimer talked about plans for the return of the highly anticipated Nicolas Cage character Ben Franklin Gates. “Hopefully we’re writing the script right now. Hopefully [Cage] likes it, but it’s really good. So I think we’ll get it to him soon,” he said.
Following the release of the first National Treasure film in 2004 and the sequel to National Treasure: Book of Secrets in 2007, the National Treasure: History’s Edge series marks the first return of the franchise in 15 years. While many actors will be returning to the series, the producers have made it clear that the show will not feature Ben Gates, leaving room for Cage to return for a second National Treasure sequel film.
