Netflix has partnered with the International Olympic Committee to tell the story of one of the most important basketball moments in the history of the sport. This marks the first collaboration between the organization and a streaming platform.
A must-see documentary, it chronicles how the U.S. men’s basketball team triumphed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after a humiliating defeat in 2004. Produced by Olympic basketball legends Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, the program is planned around the team’s preparations ahead of the summer games. The documentary, titled The Redeem Team, relives the moment in time to remind fans of redemption and what that gold medal really means. Wade said in an official statement,
- “In 2008, I played with my heroes, All-Stars, friends and future teammates. In addition to winning and showing the world that we are still the most dominant, our other big challenge is to change everyone’s perception of the NBA and USA Basketball’s take! I’m so excited for everyone to have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see all the work this iconic team – the Redemption team has done!”
The 2008 Team USA basketball team included many of the historical basketball greats of this generation, including James and Wade himself, as well as Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and, of course, the late Kobe Bryant laint.
The Redeem Team is coming to Netflix on October 7th.
