HBO’s “House of the Dragon” has been renewed for a second season after its record-breaking premiere, less than a week after its debut.
Just days after its long-awaited premiere, HBO’s “House of the Dragon” has been confirmed for a second season. The Game of Thrones prequel drew 10 million viewers on its debut, making it the series’ biggest debut viewership in the streaming history. Since then, the show has racked up 20 million viewers in the U.S. alone.
For those who haven’t streamed yet, House of the Dragon is based on George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood novel series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The show chronicles the story of House Targaryen and its subsequent fall from power in the tense War of the Targaryen Succession.
George RR Martin and Ryan Condal are the show’s co-creators and executive producers. The show’s main cast includes Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Dusan, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoah Mizuno and Reese Evans.
“We couldn’t be more proud of what the entire House of Dragons team accomplished in season one,” Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of programming, said in a statement. “Our amazing cast And the crew took on the great challenge of exceeding all expectations and delivering a show that has become established as a must-see TV show.”
“Thank you so much to George, Ryan and Miguel for taking us on this journey,” she continued. “We are very excited to continue to bring the epic saga of House Targaryen to life in Season 2.”
HBO hasn’t announced a production schedule for season two, but it’s fair to say that fans are eager to see more of House Targaryen.
