‘WandaVision’ director Matt Shakman is reportedly in talks with the Hulme ‘Fantastic Four’ film after Jon Watts left.
Matt Shackman may direct Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie after Jon Watts pulls out.
The WandaVision director is reportedly currently in “early talks” with the studio, and while Marvel hasn’t officially offered him the job, “things are moving in the right direction.” Deadline added, however, that the search for Watts ‘s replacements will likely continue into the fall, as Marvel is also talking to other candidates.
Shackman was instrumental in Marvel Studios’ foray into Disney+, serving as the Emmy winner and director of Marvel Studios’ first series, WandaVision. The filmmaker has also been nominated for Outstanding Director of a Limited or Anthology Series or Film.
Watts pulled out of the Fantastic Four project shortly after his film “Spider-Man: Nowhere” became the sixth-highest-grossing film worldwide. The filmmakers’ departure from the film was amicable, with Watts saying, “Making three Spider-Man movies has been an incredible life-changing experience for me. I’m forever grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. “I hope we can work together again, and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision of the Fantastic Four come to life.”
