With summer coming to an end and National Movie Day just around the corner, theaters across the U.S. want to give movie lovers a chance to enjoy the season’s most anticipated blockbusters at a more affordable price.
On Sept. 3, movie theaters nationwide announced that they would offer discounted $3 tickets. More than 3,000 theaters in the U.S., including major chains like AMC, are involved. All the major movie studios have also agreed, meaning the discounts will cover more than 30,000 screens. In a statement from Cinéfondation President Jackie Brenneman, she said:
- “After a record-breaking return to movie theaters this summer, we wanted to do something to celebrate the film industry.
- The way we did it was to say ‘thank you’ to fans who made this summer a reality, and to offer an extra lure to those who haven’t returned. “
Those who haven’t seen the critically acclaimed Top Gun: Mavericks can now see it at a discounted price. Jordan Peele’s Nope will also be in it at a lower cost. The industry has yet to recover from the fallout from COVID-19, which it hopes will remind audiences of the joys of watching movies in theaters.
