The first episode of “House of the Dragon” is free on YouTube, no HBO Max subscription required to watch the critically acclaimed premiere.
If you wanted to check out HBO’s new Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, but you’re still deciding whether to subscribe, you’re in luck now: The media giant now lets you stream the show’s first episode on YouTube. One episode is completely free.
House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin and is set some 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The story follows the Targaryens and their rule over Westeros, when more dragons existed, and covers the family’s lead and eventual downfall through the Civil War of Succession (also known as the Dance of Dragons).
The show set a record when it premiered on HBO, with nearly 10 million viewers watching its opening night, and critics who previewed it said it was “better than Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad.” Despite only having two episodes (third tomorrow), HBO has taken note of the huge success of “House of the Dragon” and has given the green light for a second season.
