Janelle Monae brings a futuristic twist to the 2022 Toronto Film Festival premiere. The sequel to the 2019 mystery film Knives Out, starring Mona, Daniel Craig, Kate Hudson, Madeleine Klein and Katherine Hahn, hits theaters December 23 Netflix.

Arriving at the film’s premiere, Monet appeared on the red carpet in a voluminous gown by Iris Van Herpen. Her Cosmogonic Myth style comes from Herpen’s fall 2022 couture collection, featuring a sheer sculpted bodice that mimics the spiky spine that wraps around her neck. This 3D-printed piece is made from creamy banana leaf fabric, creating an asymmetrical train, thigh-high slits, and numerous cutouts. Completing Monae’s Alexandra Mandelkorn-inspired ensemble are stud-covered stud earrings and an engraved ring.

When it comes to footwear, Monae opted for a simple set of sandals that allowed her dress to make the ultimate statement. Her metallic gold style features a slim front, ankle and slingback straps for a minimalist silhouette. Stilettos with an overall height of at least 4 inches complete the pair, providing a clean base for the “Dirty Computer” musician’s attire.

The 2022 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) celebrates Canadian cinema. This year’s festival runs from September 8-18 and includes “The Queen,” “Weird: The Aryankovic Story,” “Faberman,” “My Cop,” “Brothers,” and “The Butcher’s” “Crossroads” and other films. The event also includes the TIFF Industry Conference, which features panel discussions on the business and art of filmmaking by various industry members and celebrities.
