Don Cheadle has confirmed he is no longer under a Marvel contract, after seven films and TV series.
Don Cheadle joined the MCU in 2010 when he replaced Terrence Howard as Colonel James Rhodes in Iron Man 2. Since then, he has reprised his role, better known as Gears of War, in seven different movies and one TV show in the Marvel realm.
In a recent interview with Variety at D23 Expo this weekend, Cheadle talked about his future in the MCU and his contractual obligations with the studio. When asked, he talked about future MCU projects and confirmed,
- “My contract years in the MCU are over, so right now, it’s like, if something sounds interesting and I get it, then yeah, let’s go.”
He also spoke with Variety about the upcoming TV series Secret Invasion. “I’m glad someone got the quest. The secret is in the title. It’s not ‘Spoiler Invasion,’ it’s ‘Secret Invasion,'” he said, teasing fans that it wouldn’t disappoint, calling it “fun “. Cheadle also confirmed that it led to the events of Armor Wars, saying: “It’s an interesting event because it sets up what happens in Armor Wars. In the trailer, you’ll see that he’s going to confront Nick Fury. He and Fury will do what they need to do throughout the show given what’s happening on the planet at this point. It’s a thriller. It’s a different kind of show than you usually see in the MCU , it’s great, and we keep changing and switching it. It’s a lot of fun.”
Secret Wars is planned for Disney+ in early 2023, while Armor Wars is expected to release in 2024. It remains to be seen what other MCU projects Cheadle will take on in the near future.
Don Cheadle’s contract with Marvel is up, but he’s still open to more roles in the MCU: “If something sounds fun and I’m presented with it, it’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s go.’” https://t.co/Q7fXIMDN9P pic.twitter.com/MXxFFYiwdi
