Sony Pictures has announced a new “Karate Kid” movie that has no ties to Netflix’s “Cobra Kai.”
Sony Pictures has announced a new film in the Karate Kid series.
According to reports, the film is being called “the return of the original ‘Karate Kid’ series” and is scheduled to premiere on June 7, 2024. The upcoming film will be the first in the series since Jaden, a 2010 reboot starring Smith, but has no ties to Netflix’s Cobra Kai series, as confirmed by show co-creator Jon Hurwitz. “Me and these guys would love to make a Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movie and hope to someday. But it’s not from us and it’s not focused on the Cobra Kai cast,” he tweeted. “Not too sure, but hope all goes well.”
In addition to the “Karate Kid” movie, which has yet to join the cast, crew and director, Sony has also unveiled a new untitled horror film from Screen Gems, which will premiere on January 6, 2023, while “The Karate Kid” Missing is the latest in the Searching series to debut on February 24, 2023.
