“Avatar” is back at No. 1 at the box office 13 years after its initial release, ahead of the premiere of its upcoming sequel.
Ahead of the premiere of the long-awaited sequel, “Avatar: Ways of Water,” Avatar has hit theaters again, generating buzz and interest again. James Cameron’s film returns to the big screen 13 years after its original release, finding itself at No. 1 at the box office after so many years.
Its triumphant return shows that fans are still eager to follow the storyline. The famous director recently revealed that he worries that the second Avatar movie will lose its relevance after a decade, but it seems his films are still so popular nearly 15 years later. The theatrical re-release of the film is remastered in 4K high dynamic range. In a virtual press conference, Cameron said: “We created this film for the big screen, the giant screen, 3D. [N] Now we’ve got the part in the film in 4K, high dynamic range and 48 frames per second. Remastered it. It looks better than ever, even when it was originally released.”
The re-release alone earned $10 million domestically and added another $20.5 million internationally, and was number one in France, Italy, Taiwan, and Thailand. The sequel, “Avatar: Ways of Water,” will be released on December 16, 2023.
