Olivia Rodrigo returned to action Saturday night to induct Alanis Morissette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization’s annual gala. During the ceremony, the singer presented Morissette with her induction trophy; the event also included tribute performances by Ruby Waters, JP Saxe and Alessia Cara.
The Grammy-winning singer stepped onto the red carpet at Toronto’s Massey Hall in a white silk slip dress reminiscent of a ’90s grunge aesthetic. Her suit featured a deep neckline and spaghetti straps, along with trim and embroidery made from black lace. Completing Rodrigo’s edgy and elegant set is a black lace choker, fine silver hoop earrings and a tiered ring. Morissette dressed up for the occasion, too, wearing a red trouser suit, floral-embroidered shirt, and crystal-covered mesh pumps.
Speaking of shoes, Rodrigo opted for a simple outfit with a pair of black leather sandals. The “renegade” singer’s shoe features a thin toe and ankle strap for added security. A slightly square toe and 2-3″ stiletto add a ’90s flair to this versatile pair, embodying Rodrigo’s stylish association with the sloppy era.
Sandals like the Rodrigo are a trend due to the popularity of nostalgic footwear. Square-toe sandals and mules have gone mainstream over the past few years, with Bottega Veneta leading the way with woven and wide-strap styles. In recent months, brands including Vince Camuto, Coach and Sam Edelman have jumped on the trend with a range of sleek mules and lace-up heeled sandals.
Speaking of shoes, the “Brutal” singer often wears shoes that complement her edgy style. Black leather boots from Dr. Martens, Naked Wolfe and Magda Butrym are her go-to styles, along with sneakers from Vans and Converse. Her off-duty footwear also includes platform boots, brogues and slippers from Miu Miu, Simon Miller and TUK. On more formal occasions, she can be seen wearing high-heeled styles from Giuseppe Zanotti, Nicholas Kirkwood, Nodaleto and more.
