In a recent cover interview with EBONY, Martin Lawrence dismissed rumors and speculation about the future of the Bad Boys series, saying, “We got at least one.” Following recent events at the Oscars, Lawrence’s joint Star Will Smith publicly slapped Chris Rock on stage, Netflix announced it was canceling “Bright 2,” and there were reports of “Bad Boys 4” being shelved.

After apologizing to his nominee and Rockman, Smith resigned from the academy and later banned him from activities for the next decade.

While Lawrence didn’t speak directly on the matter, he’s been through tough times and public missteps himself, giving him perhaps more room to sympathize with Smith. Back in 1996, Lawrence was seen running around in traffic in Sherman Oaks, California. Speaking to EBONY after the incident about Eddie Murphy’s film ‘Life’, he said: “I was having a hard time at the time and Eddie called me ready to live…he wouldn’t be with other people It’s all about me in this movie together. So, I really love him.”

The three Bad Boys films released to date have grossed over $840 million, with Bad Boys for Life (2020) grossing over $426 million. Bad Boys 4’s release date and name have yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more details.
