Jordan Peele’s epic thriller “Nope,” which just opened this weekend, is expected to gross $44.5 million domestically. If the predictions are correct, it will be Peel’s third consecutive top-grossing film.
Early forecasts, driven by a preview earlier Thursday, brought in $6.4 million, suggesting the film is poised to be a summer box-office hit. Nope is expected to top Peele’s 2017 Get Out, which opened with $33.7 million. In 2019, Us opened with $71.1 million.
Nope’s production budget was around $68 million, well above the $4.5 million and $20 million of “Going Out” and “Us.” Currently, Nope has an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and initial reaction from critics has been mostly positive for the film. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Kirk Palmer, and Steven Yeun as lead co-stars as the characters begin to discover alien creatures in their communities.
