Netflix has released the first official trailer for the upcoming Sandman series, based on Neil Gaiman’s DC comic book series from 1989 to 1996. Sandman is described as a mix of myth and dark fantasy, following names such as the Dream Master known as Dream, Morpheus, and others.

The dream, played by Tom Sturridge, is captured and held captive for a century, and his incarceration has a spiraling effect in both the dream world and the waking world. After Dream is liberated by the mortals, he seeks to restore his former power and establish order. During his journey, Dream needs to find sacred magical objects in the world of Dreaming with the help of Librarian Lucienne. There, they’ll encounter enemies such as the escaped nightmare Collins (Boyd Holbrook) and the demon Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie).

The Netflix series is developed and executive produced by original author Neil Gaiman, showrunners Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer.
